For Kathleen “Katie” Cross, P.E., Senior Technical Solutions Engineer at LF Bioenergy, that quote captures what first drew her to this purpose: creating something significant for the next generation.
“The most meaningful contributions we undertake are not always for ourselves. It is for those who come after us. For the small family farms that have fed this country for generations. For a food system and a planet worth inheriting,” says Cross.
Katie’s path into agriculture began at NC State University, where Sigma Alpha, the professional agricultural sorority, and the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering opened her eyes to just how vast and vital this industry truly is.
Her curiosity only continued to grow. It deepened the moment she witnessed firsthand the hard work and quiet dedication of a farm family. In that moment, she knew this was the industry she was meant to support.
Today, Katie channels that purpose into renewable energy and biofuels, helping turn innovation into practical solutions for family farms navigating one of the most challenging financial environments in memory.
At LF Bioenergy, she helps evaluate existing and prospective farm-based renewable natural gas projects across fuel and environmental commodity markets, ensuring each project delivers meaningful environmental impact while creating economic value for our investors and farm partners.
She views this role as part of something larger than clean energy. It is about helping small family farms navigate one of the toughest economic climates in memory with innovative, proven solutions that protect their livelihoods, strengthen their legacies, and support a more sustainable, resilient future for the next generation.
